Independent
Weekly programme departures 31 May–30 September, Mon–Sat
Experience the magnificent views of the national park on River Oulankajoki. The river flows in a wide valley through Oulanka National Park. The upper part of the river flows through beautiful shorefront meadows and lush vegetation. The lower part of the river is surrounded by high sand banks.
The canoeing route begins from the quiet waters below Kiutaköngäs rapid. After about 8 kilometres of paddling you will arrive to Ansakämppä, an open wilderness hut, with sleeping places for 15 people. While canoeing on River Oulankajoki, you can greet hikers walking along the river bank. The Karhunkierros Trail, one of Finland’s most beautiful and famous hiking trails, follows the river bank and gives hikers an opportunity to get to know the unique river nature of Kuusamo. There are many campfire sites along the route.
The canoeing route ends at Jäkälämutka bend, which is located on the Finnish border zone about two kilometres from Russia.
